Montserrat & Modernism
A MOUNTAIN, A SANCTUARY, A MONASTERY, A BOYS' CHOIR.
The life of the sanctuary is revolving around the monks' communal prayers to which visitors are welcome. La Escolania is one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe. The children receive musical training as well as formal education, and give concert performances around the world. Some of the monks work in the field of composing, producing and teaching music.
Modernism (Art Nouveau in France, Jugendstyl in Germany, Sezessionstyl in Austria, Floreale or Liberty in Italy) springs from the Arts and Crafts movement developed at the end of XIX century in England, and highlights the return to nature, graceful shapes, vegetables, flowers, fish, insects, dragons and colourful birds.
