FROM THE CATHEDRAL TO THE RAMBLAS
The Gothic Quarter, the most historic part of the city, was chosen by invading Roman armies about 2000 years ago to build a new town, and was until the 19th century enclosed in the medieval fortifications. An aqueduct transported water from the Collserola hills. In 1492, at the Major Royal Palace, the people welcomed Christopher Columbus as he returned from the New World.
