Dalí, Girona
FIGUERES & GIRONA, TOUR IN MEDIEVAL CATALUÑA
In 1970 Dalí thinks of himself an anarchist and monarchist, but after his return from France, he met Franco and praised him for signing death warrants for prisoners. But he also loved the works of Federico García Lorca, so the doubt remains as to whether his attitute towards Franco was sincere. The Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in Figueres currently serves as his official estate.
Girona has a very well conserved Jewish quarter, Carolingian wall, and the Cathedral's Gothic nave is the widest in the world. The Iberians were the first known inhabitants and by the 2nd century AD their language was replaced by Latin. They traded with other countries in the Mediterranean, and were well acquainted with Hellenistic art. See the statues of the Lady of Baza and the Lady of Elx from the 4th century B.C.
